Abstract:Hysteroscopy is deemed gold standard in infertility diagnostics, and at the same time, it is useful in treatment of pathological changes. Today, office hysteroscopy is being increasingly used; it is performed without anesthesia, in outpatient conditions, involving minimal risks. Official stance of institutions dedicated to treating infertility is that the patients are recommended hysteroscopy if there is a suspicion of intrauterine pathology, for the purpose of treating the pathology, and also due to failure of IVF treatments. It is known that 50% of infertile patients have intrauterine abnormalities. Principal objective of this research is to assess successfulness of IVF treatments in patients under 38 years of age who underwent hysteroscopy and possibly treatment of pathological changes of uterine cavity. Retrospective study included 57 patients with diagnosis of primary sterility. Each patient underwent office hysteroscopy under general anesthesia. During the procedure, endometrial biopsy was performed as well as corrections of abnormalities if determined. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of patients with normal hysteroscopic findings and the second group consisted of patients with uterine cavity abnormalities. The incidence of pathological hysteroscopy findings in women with infertility is high, and correction of intrauterine pathology improves the rate of successfulness of IVF treatment. This research established that in 31 of patients, pathology of uterine cavity was determined. In other 57 patients, no abnormality was detected. Successfulness of IVF treatment is in direct correlation with uterine cavity examination. Correction of intrauterine abormality by means of hysteroscopy method raises the successfulness of IVF treatment after failed attempts as well in patients who are attempting in vitro fertilization for the first time.
